Empowering Women and Girls in Rural Africa

"Small loans can transform lives, especially the lives of women and children. The poor can become empowered instead of disenfranchised. Homes can be built, jobs can be created, businesses can be launched, and individuals can feel a sense of worth again."

Natalie Portman

The Cottage Industry

Project Africa believes that small businesses, especially in underserved rural areas of Africa, have the best ability to encourage and develop women’s creativity and lead them to establish rural employment  through  established cottage industries.

By tapping on the creativity  and   talent  to work with their hands, our cottage industry  program aims to generate much needed income and promote positive social change for thousands of women and girls in rural villages.

Project Africa gives assistance in form of Working space at our mission houses.

  1. Equipment and machines such as  sewing  machine, catering equipments,
  2. farm tools etc.We provide grants and micro loans.Technical assistance  with training in service  production, marketing.
  3. We offer women  the opportunities to display and sell their handmade products
  4.  at Mama Africa Exhibitions in Europe, on the internet and other avenues.
  5. We help rural women entreprenuers achieve strength and independence by encouraging development of their talents, skills, and leadership abilities.

Our cottage industries have been divided into various service sectors.                This is to ensure  diversity and  to enable women  avoid  duplication of

service delivery.   Often, rural women lack ideas to run new  businesses

or they fear launching into  businesses that have been  dominated  by men.

In Project Africa, we  aim to  overcome  such barriers  and therefore

encourage rural women to approach and try  newer business opportunities

off the limit of  feminine  roles  of women  and girls as stipulated by  their

traditions or cultural values.
