Empowering Women and Girls in Rural Africa |

Healthcare:
The program in health and hygiene is designed to provide rural women with skills on how to deal with health problems by providing preventive measures and practical solutions. Trainees learn personal and home hygiene and sanitation, child care and nutrition, the prevention of water-borne disease, the value and importance of immunization and pre-and post-natal care, caring for the sick or elderly, the damaging effect of alcohol and domestic violence, and the basics of waste management. Trainees learn to replace superstitious practices with medical care from qualified doctors. HIV/AIDS: This project also aims to empower women who are often care givers both to the infected and affected relatives and friends. Women are taught about effective home -based care. |

Enterprise Development:
A major component of Project Africa is enterprise development. This starts with the training of vocational skills and establishment of income generating activities. Rural women are encouraged to establish social enterprises and earn income. Project Africa supports women by providing start up loans, equipment , working space, technical advice and training.

Education:
Project · A six months course on home service offered to at least 25-30 women. · One year Course for 10-15 Area Caregivers. These are selected from the community workers and receive advanced training to help in the coordination of Home Based Care for terminally ill patients. · One 10 - 15 day course for up to 10 teenage mothers in family life skills such as parental responsibilities, behavioural change against illicit sexual behaviour, domestic violence and the benefit to continue with training an education. |
